Univariate and multivariate analysis


These lectures focus on uni and multivariate analysis using the R statistics software. The tutorials illustrate all the tests and the analyses seen during lectures using ecological data. Informations on how to use some R packages dedicated to Exploratory Data Analysis are also presented.

R (www.r-project.org) or R-Studio (more easy to use) are commonly used and are free Statistics software. R allows you to carry out statistical analyses in an interactive mode, as well as allowing simple programming.


 Univariate analysis

 Introduction to multivariate analysis

 Descriptive statistics

 Principal Components Analysis

 Chi-squared and contingency

 Correspondence Analysis 

 Correlation and linear regression

 Multiple correspondence analysis

 Comparison of means and ANOVA.

 Canonical Correspondence Analysis 

 Multi factor  ANOVAs (crossed and nested designs).

 Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA)

 Multiple regression

Hierarchical Clustering 


Learning Outcomes:

- Acquire the scientific approach necessary for any statistical analysis.

- To know and master the fundamentals of univariate and multivariate statistics.

- Basic use of the R. software.

 Possible deepening:

- Generalized linear model

- Non-linear statistics

- Computer programming.
